About the Painting
This painting is about the moment before you fully know who you are becoming. The gears are the mind, the ambition, the grit, and the relentless motion of a woman who builds, drives, and pushes forward. The flowers are everything soft that refuses to be edited out. In Becoming, neither cancels the other - the strength is what lets the tenderness bloom, and the tenderness is what makes the strength beautiful.
The gold ground is hand-worked and textured, like a surface that has been warmed and reshaped many times. It holds the whole composition in a glow, as though this transformation is something to be honored rather than hurried. The butterflies carry the meaning of the collection. Change is not an ending or a loss, it is a release, and it is a wonderful thing to watch.
At 6 feet wide, Becoming is meant to be lived with. It works best above a sofa, a console, or a bed, or across a long wall where the gears can travel. It is for anyone standing at the edge of a new chapter, and for anyone who has already made the crossing and wants a reminder of how far she has come.
